The BUMP Festival is launching our first ever giving campaign, the 2023 BUMP Drive running November 24th to 30th! To our supporters, fans, community friends and partners, we hope you spend the next seven days of our campaign learning more about our festival. Get excited to directly support various initiatives, programs and goals we have for 2024.
Since 2017, the community-led, artist-focused BUMP Festival has exploded to become a city-wide street art movement, reimagining public spaces through the visual arts and expanding the capacity of the local arts community. Today, we are at an important moment of growth with the ability to transform our city in macro and micro ways. We’ve seen first-hand how public art can make a city somewhere people want to live, work, play and stay. We’ve also seen how robust, thoughtful and well-funded public arts programming creates a city where creatives, entrepreneurs, innovators and dreamers can believe in their city’s capacity to be a place of imagination and vitality.
In 2023, the BUMP Festival:
- Commissioned 89 new public artworks across 12 different neighbourhoods, celebrating a diversity of 45 local, national and international artists
- Championed 30 local visual artists to paint public art installations across the city
- Showcased underrepresented and diverse voices, with 50% of participating mural artists identifying as BIPOC or Indigenous, 13% identifying as LGBTQIAS+ & 61% identifying as women/ non-binary
- Strengthened our local programming through the new TRANSIT WORKS program, and the third year of our ROAD WORKS program.
- Partnered with the City of Calgary, Cirque du Soleil, Calgary Downtown Association, Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), and Calgary Transit to create amazing new mural works across Calgary.
- Worked with 59 passionate community volunteers to bolster our festival for 900+ volunteer hours.
- Engaged over 9,000 visitors in 12 free, all-ages public events over the month of August.
- Reached a massive milestone of 270+ public artworks across the city since we began
Today, we launch the 2023 BUMP Drive to create a path for direct support from all of you.
BUMP currently does not receive any ongoing public art funds from the City of Calgary. To date, the initiative has been funded through community/provincial/federal grants, public and private partnerships, and through our generous sponsors.
As our community-led, artist-focused arts programming expands, the need for your support to ensure future sustainability is more important than ever.
