The Beltline Neighbourhoods Association is recruiting youth for five exciting summer positions as part of our 2020 BUMP Festival team for work between June 1 and September 11, 2020. We’re seeking ambitious, outgoing and talented youth to help organize our 2020 BUMP Festival in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

 

About the Beltline Urban Mural Project

The Beltline Urban Mural Project (BUMP) is an award winning community-driven project to showcase art, promote tourism, improve the public realm and build community spirit in Calgary. Now entering its fourth year, BUMP has curated a diverse portfolio of local, national and international artists who have created over thirty eye-catching, inspiring and beautiful murals in Calgary. The 2020 BUMP Festival is a celebration of art, music and community in August.

 

 

About Canada Summer Jobs

These positions are contingent upon BUMP’s successful receipt of Canada Summer Jobs grant funding from the Government of Canada. Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative of the Youth Employment Strategy, which is the Government of Canada’s commitment to help young people between the ages of 15 and 30, particularly those facing barriers to employment, get the information and gain the skills, work experience and abilities they need to transition successfully into the labour market.

 

 

Who Can Apply

To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

 

Positions Available

 

BUMP Mural Coordinator

Number of Positions: 2

Hours Per Week: 40

Period: 15 weeks (June 1 – September 11, 2020)

Pay: $20/hour

Description:

The BUMP Mural Coordinators will liaise with mural artists, building/wall owners, lift companies, wall maintenance crews and the City of Calgary to ensure successful execution of mural painting. Duties include working with artists and building owners to approve mural concepts, managing site requirements for lift equipment and wall treatments, planning and tracking mural progress and managing issues as they arise. Helping host and support artists participating in the Festival is key to BUMP’s continued success.

The successful applicant will:

  • be experienced working in the visual arts field with possible visual arts background, training or education;
  • have strong communication, organization and problem solving skills;
  • be passionate about bringing visual arts into the community.

Outcomes for youth will be increased experience and awareness in working with visual arts and public art creation, building relationships with project stakeholders, and practical experience working as part of a team in creating community and cultural experiences.

 

BUMP Creative Coordinator

Number of Positions: 1

Hours Per Week: 40

Period: 15 weeks (June 1 – September 11, 2020)

Pay: $20/hour

Description:

The BUMP Creative Coordinator will manage and produce creative content for BUMP’s communication and media platforms including web, social, media and print. The successful applicant will have:

  • strong creative and graphic design skills for producing BUMP posters, festival program, print materials and graphics for digital platforms;
  • experience using digital design tools including Adobe Creative Suite;
  • strong communication skills;
  • experience working with web (WordPress) and social media platforms is an asset.

In addition to content creation, the position will entail supporting content publishing, advertising and updates on all BUMP web and social media platforms. This will also include interfacing with BUMP photographers to share their photographs during the BUMP Festival.

Outcomes for the youth will be gaining valuable experience in creating communications campaigns for arts, cultural and community programming.

 

BUMP Marketing & Outreach Coordinator 

Number of Positions: 2

Hours Per Week: 40

Period: 15 weeks (June 1 – September 11, 2020)

Pay: $20/hour

Description:

The BUMP Marketing & Outreach Coordinators will work with the BUMP Festival Coordinator to manage promotion, planning and execution of the BUMP Festival. With restrictions around public events and gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic, the role of this position will be to continue to make the BUMP murals accessible to a broader audience through social media and other means. This role will also connect and collaborate with local businesses on partnership opportunities.

Candidates will be creative, energetic and outgoing with strong communications skills and a passion for marketing and event planning. The successful applicant will have:

  • Experience in event planning and organization;
  • Experience creating and executing successful social media campaigns;
  • Strong visual communication and organizational skills;
  • A strong portfolio of photography and video production would also be an asset;

Outcomes for youth include gaining experience in visual arts marketing, promotion and community building.
