The Beltline Neighbourhoods Association is recruiting youth for four exciting summer positions as part of our 2021 BUMP Festival team for work between May 17 and September 17, 2021. We’re seeking ambitious, outgoing and talented youth to help organize our 2021 BUMP Festival in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

 

 

About the Beltline Urban Murals Project

The Beltline Urban Murals Project (BUMP) is an award winning community-driven project to showcase art, promote tourism, improve the public realm and build community spirit in Calgary. Now entering its fifth year, BUMP has curated a diverse portfolio of local, national and international artists who have created over 50 eye-catching, inspiring, and beautiful murals in Calgary. The 2021 BUMP Festival is a celebration of art, music and community in August.

 

About Canada Summer Jobs

These positions are contingent upon BUMP’s successful receipt of Canada Summer Jobs grant funding from the Government of Canada. Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative of the Youth Employment Strategy, which is the Government of Canada’s commitment to help young people between the ages of 15 and 30, particularly those facing barriers to employment, get the information and gain the skills, work experience and abilities they need to transition successfully into the labour market.

 

 

Who Can Apply

To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

 

Positions Available

 

 

BUMP Mural Coordinator

 

Number of Positions: 2

Hours Per Week: 16-40

Period: May 17 – September 17, 2021

Pay: $20/hour

 

Description:

The successful candidates will join our fast paced, team environment to collaborate and deliver an exceptional BUMP Festival. Mural Coordinators will provide support to artists, additional stakeholders and staff to develop murals and festival programming as indicated by the Executive Director.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate contracts and high level design concepts with artists and building owners
  • Create and execute schedule of mural painting
  • Book and assign crews for wall prep, lifts/scaffolding, including maintenance and any other site requirements
  • Track mural progress, managing all issues as they arise
  • Host and support artists participating in BUMP festival, acting as an ambassador for BUMP and Calgary
  • Assist marketing and creative teams on internal and external communications
  • Lead and direct volunteers as necessary
  • Build BUMP’s network of relationships with artists, industry and public through events and outreach
  • Contribute to BUMP’s overall strategies as an enthusiastic, collaborative and supportive team member
  • Participate as a team member by taking on administrative and logistical tasks to ensure delivery of seamless service

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES

  • Experience working in visual arts, logistics management and administration
  • Exceptionally strong communication, organization and problem solving skills
  • Passionate about bringing visual arts into the community
  • Handles challenges and complexities with grace and positivity
  • Ability to take initiative, meet deadlines and effectively manage priorities
  • Remote work at event and mural sites is required. Personal transportation is an asset

 

 

BUMP Outreach & Events Coordinator

 

Number of Positions: 1

Hours Per Week: 40

Period: May 17 – September 17, 2021

Pay: $20/hour

 

Description:

The successful candidate will work with the BUMP Festival Coordinator to plan and promote the BUMP Festival with a focus on community activations. With assistance from the Executive Directors and Board of Directors of the Beltline Neighbourhoods Association, the Event Coordinator will make murals and events accessible to a broader audience safely in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, manage, and promote the execution of the 2021 BUMP Festival, with a focus on ensuring accessibility to the public while adhering to current AHS guidelines for the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Connect and collaborate with local partner businesses
  • Lead the development of Artist Welcome Packages and local resources
  • Assist Festival Coordinator with the execution of all BUMP Festival events
  • Plan and organize media relations with artists without interfering in painting schedules
  • Plan and organize artist panel talks, artist interviews, and mural tours working around artist painting schedules
  • Plan and organize artist and staff events with Mural Coordinators
  • Lead and organize volunteers for events and activations as necessary
  • Connect with Mural Coordinators to ensure artists are represented authentically
  • Contribute to BUMP’s overall strategies as an enthusiastic, collaborative and supportive team member
  • Participate as a team member by taking on administrative and logistical tasks to ensure delivery of seamless service

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES

  • Experience in event planning and organization
  • Friendly and outgoing presence in the community
  • Experience soliciting and building new business partnerships
  • Exceptionally strong communication, organization and problem solving skills
  • Ability to process and interpret critical feedback into work
  • Passionate about bringing visual arts into the community
  • Handles challenges and complexities with grace and positivity
  • Ability to take initiative, meet deadlines and effectively manage priorities
  • Remote work at event and mural sites is required. Personal transportation is an asset

 

 

BUMP Marketing Coordinator 

 

Number of Positions: 1

Hours Per Week: 16-40

Period: May 17 – September 17, 2021

Pay: $20/hour

 

Description:

The successful candidate will work with the BUMP Festival Coordinator to plan and promote the BUMP Festival with a focus on an online digital presence. With assistance from the Executive Directors and Board of Directors of the Beltline Neighbourhoods Association, the Digital Marketing Coordinator will make murals accessible to a broader audience safely in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a social media strategy and campaign to enhance online viewership and increase engagement with the BUMP
  • Develop content for BUMP website and social media channels
  • Plan, manage, and execute the presentation of the 2021 BUMP Festival, with a focus on ensuring accessibility to the public while adhering to current AHS guidelines  for the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Work with Mural Coordinators to capture mural and artist information, and ensure artists are represented authentically online
  • Interface with BUMP third party creative agency and photographers
  • Develop media management database and archive for all BUMP photo and video assets
  • Contribute to BUMP’s overall strategies as an enthusiastic, collaborative, and supportive team member
  • Participate as a team member by taking on administrative and logistical tasks to ensure delivery of seamless service

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES

  • Experience creating and executing successful social media campaigns
  • Experience creating website content and updates (WordPress experience is an asset)
  • Strong portfolio of photography and video production
  • Exceptionally strong communication, organization, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to process and interpret critical feedback into work
  • Passionate about bringing visual arts into the community
  • Handles challenges and complexities with grace and positivity
  • Ability to take initiative, meet deadlines, and effectively manage priorities

The Beltline Urban Murals Project (BUMP) is a community driven initiative transforming the centre of Calgary, Alberta, Canada into an expansive open-air art gallery since 2017. The 2021 BUMP Festival runs from August 1 – 28, 2021.

 

Outcomes for youth will be increased experience and awareness in working with visual arts and public art creation, building relationships with project stakeholders, and practical experience working as part of a team in creating community and cultural experiences in Calgary. Developing skills in receiving and interpreting feedback, mentorship, coordinating amongst a team, and communication. Goals for staff will be outlined with team leaders at the beginning of the contract and monitored throughout.
