BUMP Artists Have Begun Their Magic!
Thursday August 8, 2024
As the festival is officially underway, this past week artists have begun transforming Calgary with new murals! You can check out where these talented artists are painting below and watch their masterpieces come to life through our photos and video recap.
You might have heard that BUMP Festival is creating its first official Pride mural with Kat Simmers! Kat has started her piece on the North Wall at 1411 7 Street SW. This project is a special collaboration between BUMP Festival, Blakes and Calgary Queer Arts Society. She’s been working on what is her tallest mural to date and it’s slowly coming together – we see wildflowers rising to meet the sun, walk by her site to see this fantastic project take shape.
Wenting Li and Michelle Ku from the newly formed Earbugz Collective are almost done their mural on the Beltline as well. You can stop by to check out how they tackle their canvas, the West wall of 816 11 Avenue SW in the Beltline. This fantastic duo is a true East meets West Canadiana mural story that began in the 2022 BUMP Festival when these artists met, connected and vowed to return to bring a new wall to life, together. Their mural brings magic, fantasy and a whimsical wonder to the Beltline. Watch them say hi here 🙂
Paris might be in the midst of the Olympics, but that couldn’t keep MEYSO back home! Hot off the flight from Paris, this artist hit downtown Calgary with verve and energy. Meyso’s mural at the 1st Street Underpass is quickly taking shape – his mission? To transform the streets of Calgary into his signature “Super Organism” style! Also joining us this week is Nick Sweetman from Toronto – he’s has been working away on the Huntsman and is bringing to life several wild, Canadian animals through his fantastic signature style – no grid, no assistants, just freehand!? What a guy!
