Tiffany Thomson

Tiffany Thomson is a 2SLGBTQIA+ photographer based in Calgary Alberta Canada, who specializes in documentary, editorial photography and queer stories. Growing up in Southern Alberta as a closeted queer person raised in the Mormon church, and since leaving the religion, much of her work explores stories of sexuality, religion and identity. Her images are often black and white, gritty, sharp contrast and candid in style. Her Safe Spaces series includes images and stories from the Alberta region, anti-LGBTQ protests and rallies, individual accounts, and glimpses into private and intimate spaces of community members, support groups, activities, Pride parades, an inside look into a Calgary gay bath house, and behind the scenes look of drag performances. Pieces from the work have been shown at the Exposure Photography Festival in both 2024 and 2025. Many of her photo essays have been turned into photo books, while the individual stories of community member, Lois Szabo, was featured in her short film, Safe Spaces: Stories, which was nominated for the 2025 Toronto International Women Film Festival.

She has a Bachelor of Design from Alberta University of the Arts (with distinction), majoring in Photography, and has recently been accepted into the MFA program at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She has won numerous awards and shown her photography and artwork in a number of exhibitions within Canada.
