Sasha Terway

My name is Sasha Terway (she/they) and I am currently living and creating in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, AB). A defining characteristic of my work is contrasting rendering styles within a work, most notably through repetitive, obsessivemark-making, in contrast with bold cartoonish icons. My work is inhabited by animals and I highlight the fluctuating balance between two species representing predator and prey. Through these two forms of contrast I establish fluctuating power dynamics between the two animals in an artful play. I am influenced by the need to reflect a primal sense of self in a rigid world. The animals I commonly work with are deer and wolves, and in their relationship I exhibit harmony despite the tumultuous strain of a predator prey dynamic.
