Maxwell Webber is an emerging artist born and raised in Calgary. When he isn’t painting or drawing, much of his free time is spent pursuing anything creative, such as photography or writing and recording music. Maxwell is inspired by minimalism as well as the strange and surreal. Beginning with vibrant abstract works and impressionist landscapes, his style has shifted to embrace clean simplicity while capturing the feeling of something unusual. His current work originated through exploring continuous single line portrait drawings and attempting to make them more bizarre and perhaps less human.
Calculated spontaneity could describe most of his work as he states that automatism is part of what he finds so enjoyable in the act of creation. Each piece starts with a single eye, nose or mouth and the rest organically branches out from there. Taking into consideration the composition and use of negative space.
