Calgary, Mexico
Recognizable through their bold use of colour and obsession with water, Felix de Alva’s paintings and drawings aim to convey a sense of nostalgic loneliness. Currently based in Calgary, Alberta, Felix aims to use art as a doorway to a long awaited community; inviting others to share in the sense of liminality and isolation that followed them as a queer, trans, Mexican immigrant. His interest in art was ignited by a passion for storytelling, which they used as an escape from his social difficulties and his family’s constant moves between Mexico and Canada. His vibrant works invite connection: both between his past self and present community and an individual’s conscious and unconscious selves.
