Debbie.lee Miszaniec’s oil paintings bring the genre of still life known as the banquet piece, as popularized during the 17th century Dutch Golden Age, into contemporary spaces, to talk about health and diet culture and the dilemmas of the individual caught between nature and culture. The paintings speak to the outsized role that diet culture gives to our weight and to controlling the quality and quantity of our food when managing our health.
Debbie.lee Miszaniec received her BFA in painting from AUarts (ACA+D) in 2008. In 2020 her series of drawings, the Covid Chronicles, generated international attention.
