Bryan Beyung

Montreal, China

Beyung is a visual artist, born in Montreal to a Chinese-Cambodian family. His artistic approach would fall under the auto-ethnographic journey. He mainly addresses diasporic heritage by creating works based on memories, ideas and images related to this experience. Influenced by his past as a graffiti artist and graphic designer, he paints everyday subjects to give them a second approach– a second life. His work can be seen in the United States, Canada, Haïti, France, Morocco and Cambodia.

Mural Statement

“This is an image taken from my studio; the idea was to open a window on this cult place of creation. The windows (bright blue) being the look towards the outside world as a source of inspiration. I sought not to represent the human in the figurative sense (as requested during the brief) but that we could still feel his presence by the arrangement of the places and the objects (notably the chairs) . There is a very intimate atmosphere when we paint in the studio. And conversely, when we paint murals and public works we expose ourselves, our works and our vulnerability.”
