Notes from the CRASHOUT : Skate, Sound & The Public Place
Friday August 22, 2025
This Saturday, we had our festival finale: CRASHOUT – a tongue-in-cheek event name that refers both to the madness our organizers go through during the festival season and the energy we wanted to bring to this year’s finale.
We’ve spent the past couple of months thinking of BUMP as more than a mural festival but as a place in itself. In a city known for its corporativism (with double the office space per capita than Toronto or Vancouver), we want to scream from the rooftops that public space is for the people. When the private sphere defines useful space in terms of KPIs and dollars spent, we yearn for more. Public space is for the people to connect, to play, to rest. We’re so happy that we were able to finish out the finale in a way that reflected this ethos. Thanks to everyone: the ravers, skaters, and mega eaters, who came out and made CRASHOUT everything we wanted and more.
We started the day off with the DEADLY COMBINATION of Scozzafava’s Deli and Class Clown. This A-team was whipping up philly cheesesteak sandwiches till they ran out of bread. To those working the grill & till, and the 500 brave soldiers who stood patiently in line, we salute you for your strength and endurance.
All day and all night, our halfpipe was BURSTING with energy. Whether you were on your board or blades, showing off your flips or learning how to drop-in for the first time, a big emphatic THANK YOU to EVERYONE who came out. Shout out to Academy Skateboard Collective for organizing the halfpipe and special thanks to the Droppin’ In team for helping out the entire event.
The event wouldn’t have been the same without the intense, energetic sounds of our local punk bands and DJs. Thanks to Catpiss, Local Menace, and Stucco for being the soundtrack to this amazing event. Thanks as well to TeeNoble, OJC, and WOE who all flew in to play for us. It was a blast to dance to y’all. Hugs to Niallist who not only played a great set, but also built the custom CRASHOUT DJ booth.
This summer’s partner-in-crime, Establishment Brewing Company, were serving cold cans of Jupiter Jazz. Their brilliant brewing has set the flavour-profile for our entire festival: refreshing with a bit of bite. We cannot thank them enough.
THANK YOU AGAIN to everyone who came out this year, we can’t wait to do this again!!
