Panel 4

The Age of the Editorial: Storytellers, Subjects, and the Shaping of Legacy

August 06, 2025

4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

In an era saturated with profiles, podcasts, thinkpieces, and reels, editorial content has become a dominant force in shaping how we understand artists, thinkers, and the work they put into the world. But as the visibility of public art increases, so too does the power of those who narrate it. Journalists, content producers, and curators often act as informal gatekeepers, determining what is remembered, what is amplified, and what fades from view.

This panel brings together both storytellers and those who are often the subjects of their stories, artists themselves to unpack the politics and poetics of documentation. What does it mean to be written about, framed, or quoted out of context? How do artists navigate the tension between being visible and being defined? And in a media ecosystem where virality can be mistaken for value, what kinds of stories endure?

Together, we’ll explore how editorial storytelling can preserve complexity, resist flattening, and create space for artists to shape their own legacies while also examining where it falls short, and what the future might look like.
